According to the Orange County Register some 116 million Americans suffer from some form of won’t-go-away physical misery.

“It’s more common as we get older,” says Dr. Standiford Helm of Pacific Coast Pain Management Center in Laguna Hills. “One way to avoid it,” he jokes, “is to stay 18.”

As an interventional pain-management representative on the Carrier Advisory Committee for Medicare in California, he has published and lectured extensively on the topic. He’s also worked with FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration agents to assist them in discriminating between practitioners prescribing for a legitimate purpose and those supplying medications for abuse.

But the loss of estrogen harms bone health and these patients are at higher risk for bone loss and fractures.

One of the newest reality shows to come to TV is the show My Naked Secret. As viewers watch this show the emotions of the affected people on the show are very similar to the emotions patients feel when they consult a plastic surgeon. Researchers found that the risk of coronary heart disease linked with a higher body mass index can be decreased by being active. But in the study, exercise didn’t completely eliminate the risk.
